MP3 encoding takes even longer, and hogs your CPU all the time. Ripping a batch that high takes l.o.n.g., I could only do it as a background task, while surfing. and don't mix your rips with downloaded crap, unless you're really sure what you're doing. This includes the directory structure, file names, mp3 tags (id3v2!), and possibly additional infos (if you want to tag the release year, it's a good time to do it while you already have the CDs in your hands) Decide on a naming scheme and stick to it. Problem with the rippers I know is that they normalize each track to 100% - but some tracks (intros and the like) are meant to be quiet. Take care of normalization from the beginning, or you will regret it. If not, EAC can make sure, but it's dead slow and clumsy to use. Unless your reader is top-notch AND your CDs all in excellent shape, you will get the occasional read error. It's a pain to re-do it (I still have mp3's from the old MusicMatch days).
Make really really sure that the quality is (and will be) ok for you *before* you start batch ripping. The pitfalls I've encountered on my journey: Then I've tested a lot of rippers, and finally settled for CDex+Lame.Īfter 30 or so CDs (470 still waiting), I modified CDex to catch read errors, and created a Lame frontend that made batch ripping much more convenient. I started ripping my collection with MusicMatch4, but after a while I wasn't satisfied with the quality. IMO the nicest thing about it was the somewhat reasonable bitrate, but its fairly easy to limit bitrate with the presets anyway (for portables mainly). R3mix is ok, but theres not really a point in using it instead of the alt-presets. I was doing CD-MP3 comparisons with a set of good headphones and could not tell the difference.
With VBR they give very reasonable file sizes.
#RAZORLAME MP3 ENCODER PORTABLE#
It's bloatware for an MP3 player as far as I'm concerned, but it's great for getting all of those VBR files set to 192 CBR so I can play them on my portable CD MP3 player (original Genica MP-Trip).ĭoesn't that come with FhG and its horribly broken VBR support? View image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif I'm guessing most of the ones in between will too.įor conversions, I use Musicmatch Jukebox. My Rio PMP 300 could almost 3 years ago and my Volt 100 does now. Are most of the portable MP3 players compatible with VBR?
